Birth record shows his DOB as 1st April 1824, which is probably more accurate. But the paragraph on Golden Year book states his DOB as 25/12/1822, as shown in Fig. 1 below. His Death record gives his age as 83 years at the time of death, which would make his birth year 1820, adding a third possible birth year in to the mix. It has been noticed that reverse calculation of birth year by the given age of a death certificate has not been accurate in most instances, though it gives a rough idea when it occured. It is understandable, as the recorded age on death certificate is what is given by a third-party, viz.; the informant of the death to registrar.
He was born in Atigala where his family was living. His mother Kuruwitage Don Paternella Perere was the daughter of Kuruwitage Abraham Perera of Mulliriyawa.
Hanwella lineage upto Don Cornelis is described in detail on the Deed history of Ambagahawatte; Liwuna Amarasekara who was married to Baron Wijesinghe of Mulleriayawa, who did not have children of their own devided the above land in equal shares between families of two of Cornelis's sons and Mudliyar Don Johanis Amarasekara. At the time of writing of the deed history (1945), the 1/8th share given to Mudaliyar Johanis was in the hands of his great-grandson Ivor Edwin Amarasekara
Therefore it can be assumed that Don Cornelis, Liwuna and Mudl. Johanis are siblings. The Golden Book of India mentions that Mudl. Johanis's father is Don Daniel Amarasekara, and that he descends from the Prime Minister of King Rajasinghe II, which links this lineage directly with the original Amarasekara lineage of Attanayaka, Ekanayaka & Amarasekara.
His daughter Emalia Sarah Amarasekara married George Edwin Amarasekara, a son of Bartholomeuz from Madampe. The Gazette notification dated 7th Sept. 1899 on court action against Mudaliyar Johanis and his daughter Emalia Sarah by his son-in-law George Edwin Amarasekera (named George Edmund in the notice by mistake), shown in Fig. 2 is interesting. Can not see any logical reason why Geroge Edwin would sue his wife and father-in-law.
