This is the first time we encounter the use of a "Ge" name by the Amarasekara clan of Hanwella. Some of the records refer to him
without a "Ge" name; e.g., a description of Mudaliyar Don Johanis Amarasekera appearing on Golden Book of India as shown in fig. 1
refers to Johanis's father as Muhandiram Don Daniel Amarasekara.
Fig.1: Golden Book of India
The Marriage certificate of Don Daniel shown in Fig.2 below shows that his full name include "Suraweera Arachchige Don Daniel Amaraseakra
Mohandiram". The question arises, if both names refer to the same person.
Assumptions that support the hypothesis that they refer to the same person
As per timeline, the generation fits the bill. Mudl. Johanis, Liwuna and Cornelis are born in 1920's, hence Daniel has to be born around
the last two decades of 1700's.
The birth certificate of Johanis confirms the name of the father as Suraweera Aarachchige Don Daniel Amarasekara
It is unlikely that there were two Muhandirams for Hewagam Korale at the same time, with name Don Daniel Amarasekara, with one
of them having a "Ge" name in addition. Though unlikely, it is not quite impossible
If they are two different people, it has to be a further coincidence that they both had a son each named Johanis born in 1824 and
1822 respectively. The difference in the DOB's may be a mistake, possibly the birth record being more accurate than a description
on a Year Book based on secondary data.
Arguments that refutes the idea that they are the same person
It is possible that within Hewagam Korale that there were two different Muhandiram Daniel Amarasekara, as none of the records
sofar refer to a Pattu, which means while S.A Don Daniel can be Muhandiram for Meda Pattu (Hanwella, Atigala), the other Don Daniel
is Muhandiram for Uda patthu. There are some records that show his son Mudl. Johanis's residence was in Thunnana. Whereas
the birth certificate of Johanis shows S.A. Don David was from Atigala.
This is quite significant, as descendants of Amarasekera lineage in Hanwella have always believed that they do not have a "Ge"
name, and those without the "Ge" name to be the "orginal" clan. If these are in fact 2 different people, we can continue to be sure
that the Hanwella lineage does not have a "Ge" name.
